As part of the process of exploring our relationship with this project, we put together a mix built around some own the concepts and inspirations behind Omura. Tunes that inspired us, in their original form, or reworked and reinterpreted to better reflect the way we channelled each other’s idea through the creative ecosystem that grew out of the album.
The ecosystem represents a realm of pure creativity where ideas exist, on their own terms. They are there for anyone to discover but to do so, we need to step out of our usual patterns and spaces to find them. Omura was our guide to this realm and our guide once we had found it.
Divided into four sections, roughly corresponding to the different ecosystems Omura helped us to explore, the mix was initially performed live on the same mixing desk the album was built with in Hackney, before being bounced down and sent over to Bristol for further manipulation and processing. At each stage, further layers of texture and creative degradation was incorporated, mirroring the way we distorted and recontextualised each other’s musical ideas as we bounced files between our studios.
