Subalicious + Bratva present Philth

March 3

$15

Philth is a force on the charge. A dedicated specialist in a range of styles and techniques, he is able to bring personality and individualism to both his DJing and production. His wide range of releases, across a number of labels, has allowed him to gain a unique insight into the game, and coupled with his musical influences and abilities, this is one force which will not be dissipated.

Philth was raised in North London, and now makes his home over in West London, where his music and life are influenced by music, both electronic and soundtrack-based, as well as his love of films and food. He traces his direct musical lineages back to figures like Ed Rush and Optical, Bad Company and Goldie, and his love of 90s techstep is reflected is his own work, which is known for its bold sonic statements and resolute, resounding basslines. But Philth is not only about the harder side of our sound, he goes deeper, drawing out the soul in the harsh, urban soundscapes he creates.

His music has made its way to some of the leading labels in drum & bass today, including Dispatch, Playaz, CIA, Peer Pressure, Flexout, AutomAte and Soul Deep, and support from DJ’s such as Bailey, Hype, Marky, Ant TC1, Total Science, S.P.Y, Doc Scott, Randall, London Elektricity, Calyx & Teebee, Krust and many more shows the diversity and undoubted dancefloor appeal of his music. Despite his prolific work-rate, Philth has, and continues to make music that exhibits identity and longevity, music that becomes a part of the listeners lives as much as it has been a part of his.

“I want to make music that tells a story, music with strong emotional content. Even if the end result is a pummelling wall of bass, the intro still needs to have some soul, music with enough depth to stand the test of time.”

As both A&R and assistant label manager at Peer Pressure, and music production teacher at a Central London college, Philth is fully integrated into the musical life. His skills and experience draw from his teaching, and in turn, he is able to put his musical knowledge to use in his outreach to students.

His DJing career has grown in strength and visibility. He likes to play across the spectrum, from deep, soulful vibes to tearing techstep. His DJing across three decks is always full of energy, moving from classics to upfront beats. His gigs, from iconic London venues like Fire, Area, Hidden and Ministry Of Sound, to national and international shows, are dominated by his own fresh dubs and cuts from the labels he is associated with.
Of this side of his art, Philth says:

“DJing is my first love and will always be my biggest passion in life. Nothing excites me as much as seeing the reaction on peoples’ faces when they get hit by a new bassline for the first time!”

All of these combined elements have meant that Philth has developed an arsenal of skills and tools, which have helped him progress to his new levels of success. Production, DJing, teaching and radio all add into the mix for this true music man.

But Philth is not one to rest on his laurels. He is now working on new projects with vocalists such as Collette Warren, P-Fine, Formik and Agman Gora, to add a new level to the Philth sound. His upcoming release schedule includes a forthcoming EP with Facing Jinx, and The Elements, a concept EP coming on Peer Pressure. He sees the next natural step as an album project, on which he aims to fuse his twin passions of drum & bass and soundtracks.

Philth represents the future. His multi-dimensional, dedicated approach to his music and his art shines through in everything he does. With a plethora of plans, and new music coming out all the time, make sure you make Philth a part of your musical life.
